Family Fun in the Fall!

Reading Time:

The leaves are changing, the air is getting crisp and the kids are heading back to school, which means fall is coming—along with all the fun fall activities! There are lots of ways to celebrate autumn with either free or inexpensive activities. This go-to guide will help you jump start your fall celebrations!

1. Go To a Pumpkin Patch
Something about finding the perfect pumpkin can be quite an adventure. Visit your local pumpkin patch to start the hunt. While you’re there be sure to get lost in the corn mazes and take a trip on the bumpy hayrides!

2. Apple Picking
Visit your local apple orchard and enjoy the smell of apples as it spreads through the air. Take your little ones to learn and experience how one of their favorite fruits are harvested. Don’t forget to bring home some of those delicious apple goodies for later like apple cider, apple pies, apple jam and more!

3. Paint Your Pumpkin
As much fun as carving a pumpkin can be, if you have little ones, painting is often a safer option. You can use other arts and crafts supplies to dress up the pumpkins and have just as much fun!

4. Take A Nature Walk
Nature walks are a simple way to connect as a family. Enjoy the beautiful display of colors that Mother Nature puts on for us, the brisk weather and even admire the groups of birds flying south or little squirrels collecting nuts. Appreciate all that nature has to offer this time of year!

5. Fall Baking
Fall foods are the best foods. All your summer goodies get a seasonal makeover and the fall comfort foods come out to play. There is nothing like working by a warm oven on a crisp, cool day as the house fills with amazing smells. The apple flavors, pumpkin and so much caramel! If that won’t get you baking then maybe nothing will.

6. Rake Leaves
The thought of raking leaves may seem like just another task on your fall checklist. Put some joy in your fall yard work and make the ultimate leaf pile. Grab your whole family and jump in!

7. Camping
Go off the grid for a fall camping trip! Hike through the woods and admire the beautiful colors of the leaves. In the evening, stay warm around the bonfire, make s’mores and tell ghost stories.

8. Leaf Peeping
When the leaves begin to change, and begin to display their dazzling colors of reds, oranges, purples and yellows, it is the perfect time to hit the road for a bit of leaf peeping.

9. Fire Pits and S’mores, What More Could You Ask For?
Grab your blanket, marshmallows and hot cocoa and gather around a warm fire for laughs and a scary story or two. Before lighting that match, read up on Fire Pit Safety to learn the best ways to keep you and your family safe this fall.

10. Create DIY Fall Decorations
With its phenomenal colors, natural materials and iconic images, fall is a fun time to craft. Apples, corn, pumpkins and leaves can all be recreated in numerous ways with supplies. Make it a family activity to keep the little ones busy and entertained while making crafts to spice up the house décor.

No fall would be complete without cozy sweaters, pumpkin picking and of course, show-stopping nature. As we make the transition from the long sunny days of summer to the cooler half of the year, get outside with your family and explore the changing seasons before it gets too cold!
