Reasons Why You Should Travel Solo at Least Once in Your Life

Reading Time:

Traveling with a group or travel partner can be extremely rewarding. You have someone to share and embrace all of the incredible moments with. But there is nothing like traveling alone. Traveling alone can be an incredible and life changing experience. Here are some things you’ll gain when you try traveling alone at least once.

1. A Sense of Empowerment
When you realize how resourceful you can be when no one else is with you, it can be empowering. You discover new tricks to successfully navigate on your journey and  boost your confidence as you begin finding your own way, and feel a sense of independence. It is said that those who travel solo come back with a new perspective on life, inspired and ready to do amazing things in other areas of their lives.

2. Decisiveness
When you travel with a partner or a group, you are able to bounce ideas off someone else. When you travel alone, you will learn to be decisive and make every decision alone. From where to eat, to what adventures you’ll plan for the day, to even what time to wake up. Listen to your gut and control what direction you want to go.

3. Self-Discovery
Traveling with others will bring you plenty of entertainment, bonding moments and fun, but traveling alone you might find yourself. When you’re alone, you give yourself time to reflect and think about what your purpose and passions are. You get to reflect and discover what makes you, you.

4. Freedom
One of the perks of traveling solo is that you are the one in control. You have freedom and complete control over your plans. If you want to be more spontaneous or have a day to relax, it’s all up to you. You don’t have to make sacrifices just because your travel partner wants to do something different. You also have complete financial control. If you have a strict budget, it will be easier to stick to it. When you travel solo you won’t get talked into splurging on an expensive meal or tour that might not interest you. You could spend that money on what you want to do.

5. Make New Connections and Friendships
When people hear “solo” travel, they may think that you’re always alone. That isn’t always the case. Since you won’t be talking to anyone you know, you’ll be more likely to strike up conversations with strangers. You may meet some amazing locals or other adventurers like yourself. Travel can lead to exciting adventures and meaningful experiences with strangers that will have a long lasting impact.

The prospect of traveling solo can sound daunting or not as fun as if you were traveling with a friend. Don’t put off your traveling dreams because you don’t want to do it by yourself. Realize how strong and capable you are, pack your bag and go explore what’s out there for you!
