Fall Home Maintenance for Arizona Homes
Reading Time:
Arizona typically experiences extremely hot summers and while things do cool down in the fall, the list of items on an Arizonan’s fall home maintenance checklist is a bit different from most other regions in the United States. Here are the tasks which Arizonans should focus on:
Inside
- Maintain the HVAC and change air filters. Filters should be changed every 30-60 days.
- Check the hot water sources and appliances for leaks such as the hot water heater, the water meter and the drain/supply lines.
- Check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Dry air regions are at a higher risk for fire. Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors save lives.
- Check ventilation to avoid mold growth by keeping your high moisture areas well-ventilated. Your kitchen, bathroom and laundry rooms should have fresh air supply and wet or damp clothes should not be left to sit.
Outside
- Trim back trees to a minimum of six feet from the house/roof. This will help keep rodents from getting on the roof.
- Clean window wells and check the caulking around the windows, stucco and trim.
- Clear debris from around outdoor condensing unit.
- Check that exhaust ducts are clear as well as attic vents.
- Inspect the existing weatherproofing for areas that need replaced around windows and doors.
A well-maintained home is a safer home and taking care of seasonal tasks can help prevent unexpected costly repairs. For more great tips, check out this checklist available from Phoenix.gov.
