What is an Insurance Endorsement?
Reading Time:
Have you heard people mention endorsements or riders you can add to your insurance policy? Endorsements and riders are the same thing, so either term can be used. Essentially, they are modifications or additional coverages to your policy. They alter the terms of a basic policy and become part of the insurance contract.
A common example is personal property. Your homeowners policy offers some coverage for certain personal property, but sometimes the limits aren’t high enough, and in some situations (losing a diamond ring, for example) your deductible may cost more than replacing the ring, so it wouldn’t make sense to make a claim against your homeowners policy.
AmShield offers the following endorsements to its homeowners policy:
- Additional Coverage A (ask your agent about this and if you need it)
- Limited Water/Sewer Backup
- Earthquake
- ID Theft
- Personal Injury Coverage
- Mobile Home Coverage
- Additional Premises
- Claims brought against you for malicious prosecution and slander
- Liability Protection for some private school, studio occupancies, or incidental and professional offices on premises
- Home Daycare
- A home under construction that you intend to reside in
- Theft from a home under construction
- Coverage for Guns
If you have any questions about these endorsements and if you need them, we encourage you to reach out to your agent.
